About Us

From the Landfill to a Future of Hope

Brazos de Jesús is a Christian non-profit organization founded in 2015, dedicated to rescuing and transforming the lives of children who live in extreme poverty in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

What began as a small outreach to the families working in the city’s landfill has become a life-changing ministry where more than 340 children receive education, nutrition, and healthcare, while learning moral and spiritual values that restore their dignity and hope for the future.

To defend the fundamental rights of children living in extreme poverty and social risk in Honduras by providing education, health, nutrition, and moral and spiritual guidance — helping them become men and women of integrity, prepared for a purposeful life.

To become a leading and established organization that promotes the integral development of children living in extreme poverty and high social risk throughout Honduras.

We serve with faith, love, and integrity. We believe in order and respect, value solidarity and service, and strive for excellence, commitment, and gratitude in everything we do — always seeking to reflect God’s heart in our actions.

The Beginning of a Mission That Still Grows

What began as a simple visit to the municipal landfill of San Pedro Sula in 2015 became the beginning of a mission that would transform countless lives. Pastors Carlos and Mirna Mendoza, deeply moved by what they witnessed, families surviving among the trash and children facing hunger, illness, and hopelessness—felt a divine calling to act. With faith as their foundation, they started Brazos de Jesús, a ministry created to restore dignity and offer new opportunities to children and families living in extreme poverty. What began with sharing food and words of encouragement soon grew into a complete support program focused on education, nutrition, and healthcare. Today, more than 340 children receive free education, daily meals, medical attention, and the chance to dream of a better future. Guided by God’s love and the support of many generous hearts, Brazos de Jesús continues to bring light, hope, and transformation to one of the most vulnerable communities in Honduras.

Meet the Founders

For over 30 years, Carlos and Mirna de Mendoza have devoted their lives to serving God and transforming their community in Honduras. Carlos, Founder and Director of Brazos de Jesús Honduras, and Mirna, Academic Director, have faithfully led this ministry with a heart for rescuing children from poverty and guiding them toward a life of purpose and faith.

Since 2011, they have also pastored Iglesia de Santidad Misión Integral, where their ministry continues to grow in both spiritual and social impact. Through Brazos de Jesús, guided by God, they have provided hope, education, and holistic care to hundreds of children, breaking cycles of poverty through the power of Christ and the opportunity of learning.

Together, they are parents of three and spiritual parents to more than 340 children, whose lives they nurture daily with faith, love, and compassion.

Supporting Every Child’s Needs

Education Support

Children receive a full education starting from kindergarten, gaining the knowledge and skills to dream and grow. They also take vocational courses in barbering, woodworking, and sewing, with more programs planned for the future.

Healthcare Access

Children receive regular medical care to stay healthy and strong. The ministry currently employs a doctor and a nurse, and plans are underway to hire additional medical staff and fully equip the clinic to meet all their healthcare needs.

Food & Nutrition

Children receive daily nutritious meals, often their only food of the day, helping them grow, stay healthy, and have the energy to learn and play. This is made possible through sustainability projects and generous donations.

Spiritual Growth

Children are guided in faith and values, learning moral principles and biblical teachings that shape their character and inspire hope. During school breaks, they also participate in Bible schools to deepen their spiritual growth.
